Lahaina Maui

Lahaina is a historic village on the island of Maui. The former whaling port is now the home of many art galleries and shops.

In the early 1800's, Lahaina was the capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom. In the same time period it was a booming port for whaling ships. Herman Melville was one of the sailors who were there. Large areas have been designated a historic district. There are 65 sites on the Lahaina Historic Trail walking tour.

Haleakala National Park stretches along Maui's south and east coasts. It contains the island's highest peak (10,023 feet above sea level) and many visitors go to the park early to watch the sunrise.

Iao Valley State Park on Maui is 4,000 acres of lush tropical beauty. The Iao Needle is an iconic landmark.
